Hat Trick (2023), Eleanor
Hattrick is a macabre, comedic short written by Tess Lafia and Noah Deats, directed by Tess Lafia.
When Eleanor— an artistically ferocious young party magician— has her first gig since the death of her father, she struggles to balance her vision for the project with the legacy of her family and the wants of the birthday boy.
Harpies (2024), Margueritte
Harpies is a campy, genre-bending proof-of-concept short for a feature written by Molly Kirschenbaum and Payson Whitwell, directed by Molly Kirschenbaum. It premiered at New Filmmakers Los Angeles on June 1, 2024, and will be screening at Palm Springs International ShortFest on June 20th, 2024, where it is nominated for Best Comedy. In 2022, the screenplay for Harpies was selected as a quarterfinalist in the Hollyshorts Screenplay Competition, and a second-round pick at the Austin Film Festival.
It's 1894, and with a fake mustache and well-endowed roll of socks, Nora, a poor farmer's daughter, is the first woman to attend the Royal Academy of the Arts in London. Her ruse is upended, however, when the Academy admits its first official female student, insufferable heiress Margueritte Durand.
